How to determine what radius is best for your GPS Missions and why some participants may have trouble checking in.
What is a GPS radius?
When creating a GPS Mission, you will need to set an accepted radius. This radius is the range in which participants can check into a location successfully. If they fall outside of the radius, they will be unable to complete the Mission.
What radius options do I have?
Within the Goosechase platform you can choose a radius of:
25 meters
50 meters
100 meters
250 meters
500 meters
1 kilometer
2 kilometers
5 kilometers
What radius option should I choose?
The radius option you choose will depend a lot on the location of your Experience. Regardless of the option you choose, we recommend selecting a radius slightly larger than you anticipate needing.
This is because, in order to complete a GPS Mission, our app pulls from the location settings of the participant's own device. These settings can vary in accuracy from device to device depending on their model, so some participants may have more accurate locations than others. Therefore, we recommend setting a more forgiving radius for the Mission to account for this and ensure most participants will be able to complete the Mission.
For example, let's say you are running a conference and participants need to check in at registration. Instead of limiting the radius to just where the check-in will be in the building, we recommend setting it to encompass most of the building, if not the whole building.
Alternatively, if you want participants to check in at a specific monument or street location. We recommend setting the radius to encompass a few extra blocks surrounding the monument or street location.
In most cases we recommend using the 100 - 500 meter options for the best results.
FAQ
Do GPS Missions show participants the radius they need to check in at?
Do GPS Missions show participants the radius they need to check in at?
No, by default the GPS Missions will not show this information. If you want to direct participants to the location you will need to attach a map or photo to the Mission as a link or as an image. This is why we recommend making a more forgiving radius as the accepted radius is hidden to the participants.
