How Experience time zones work in Goosechase

Updated yesterday

This article explains how time zones work within the Goosechase platform and how they can be viewed, managed, or changed from Goosechase Studio.

Where can I see my Experience time zone?

Your Experience time zone is displayed in 2 places in Goosechase Studio:

On the Details tab in the Create section, you'll see your Experience time zone displayed in the top right corner.

The Details tab in the Create section of Goosechase Studio, with an orange box highlighting the text "Your experience time zone is Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5)" in the top right corner

On the Start & End tab in the Publish section, you'll see a note confirming the time zone your publishing times are based on.

How does the time zone get set for my Experience?

When you create an Experience in Goosechase Studio, the start and end times—along with any automation settings—are set based on the time zone you're in at that moment. Those settings are locked in once the Experience is created and won't change, even if you switch to a different time zone later.

If you've moved to a new time zone since creating the Experience, the time zone will appear different in the Start & End tab, but the actual schedule will still follow the original time zone the Experience was created in.

How do I change my Experience time zone?

Once an Experience is created, its time zone is locked and cannot be edited directly. There are 3 options available to you:

1. Duplicate the Experience. When you duplicate an Experience, the new copy will adopt your current time zone at the time of duplication. You can then set the correct start and end times from there.

2. Account for the time difference when setting your Experience times. Because participants always see times in their own local time zone within the app, you can adjust the times in Studio to match. For example, if your Experience is set to CST but you're running it in EST, setting the times 1 hour ahead in Studio means participants will see the correct EST times in the app.

3. Have a team member in the correct time zone create or duplicate the Experience. If someone on your team is currently in the time zone you need, they can either create a new Experience under their account or log into your account and duplicate the existing Experience from their device—either way, the Experience will adopt their current time zone.

If you've purchased a Single Experience Upgrade and needed to create a new or duplicate version of your Experience to adjust the time zone, please reach out to our team at hi@goosechase.com, and we can help move the upgrade over to the new Experience!

What time zone do participants see?

The time zone settings in Goosechase Studio only affect the Creator side. Participants using the Goosechase app will always see Experience times displayed in their own local time zone—regardless of what time zone the Experience was created in.

This means you can account for time zone differences when setting your Experience times in Studio. For example, if your Experience is set to CST but you're running it in EST, setting the times 1 hour ahead in Studio means participants will see the correct EST times in the app.

FAQs

Does the time zone affect my automations?

Yes—any automation settings you configure, such as Mission release times, are also tied to the time zone set when the Experience was created.

How do I duplicate my Experience?

You can duplicate your Experience from the homepage of Goosechase Studio by selecting the three dots next to the Experience and choosing Duplicate from the menu that appears. This article will walk you through the steps with visuals.
