Tie-breaking strategies

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Because our system only ranks the leaderboard by points, there are going to be scenarios where there is a tie. This is a great opportunity to get creative and determine a winner. If you are wondering about the best ways to break a tie, you can try the following 👇

  • Utilize bonus points➕: Bonus points are a great way to break ties. You can award points for speed, for collaboration, for going above and beyond, or just overall quality of answers. Some creators will add them during the game so it's reflected on the leaderboard, and some will add them afterwards to add a bit of suspense.

  • Sudden death/quick draw⏳: If you are caught with a tie at the end of the game, you could release a sudden death Mission. You can keep this Mission set to draft (which keeps it hidden) and then turn off draft mode to release it to the participants. Then, the first team to complete the Mission (successfully) wins!

  • Mission Blitz ⚡️: In the event of a tie, consider putting out a bunch of small Missions in a short time window. You can have these Missions expire shortly after release, and the team that completes the most in a short time frame wins! Consider having each blitz Mission unlock one or more high-value Missions.

Helpful Honk 🪿: Make sure to communicate what bonus points are up for grabs to participants ahead of time and how the scoring for tiebreaking will be considered to keep things transparent.
