How to use unlockable Missions in the classroom

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Unlockable Missions allow you to create a dynamic, engaging learning experience for students by revealing new Missions based on a previous Mission being completed. Below are ways to utilize unlockable Missions in the classroom:

How can I use unlockable Missions in my classroom?

Unlockable Missions can be used in various ways to enhance learning, such as:

Ensuring Key Knowledge Before Progressing: Require students to demonstrate understanding of a foundational concept before moving forward.

Example: Before starting a hands-on science experiment, students must complete a safety quiz. Once they pass, they unlock the step-by-step lab Missions to guide them through the experiment.

Grouping Related Activities: Unlock a set of Missions after students complete an initial challenge or task.

Example: In a music class, students begin with a rhythm and beat clapping exercise. Once they complete this Mission, it unlocks a set of related Missions, such as experimenting with different instruments, creating a short melody, and identifying rhythms in popular songs.

Creating Age-Appropriate Pathways: Unlock different sets of Missions tailored to various age groups within the same Experience. This ensures that younger and older students engage at their own level while still participating together.

Example: A school runs an event for both elementary and high school students. Completing an initial kickoff Mission unlocks two separate sets of Missions—one with simpler, interactive tasks for younger students and another with more advanced challenges for older students—allowing everyone to participate meaningfully while contributing to the same overall Experience

Creating a Step-by-Step Learning Path: Structure Missions so that each new task builds on the previous one, encouraging students to progress through a lesson in a logical sequence.

Example: In a creative writing activity, students start by choosing a story genre. Once they complete a brainstorming Mission, they unlock Missions guiding them through character creation, plot development, and finally, writing their short story.

Using Problem-Solving to Unlock Clues: Have students complete Missions that provide hints or answers for future challenges, reinforcing critical thinking and deduction skills.

Example: In a math class, students solve a word problem to unlock the next step of a larger mystery. Each correct solution provides a clue to the final answer, fostering problem-solving and logical reasoning.

Encouraging Thematic Exploration: Unlock Missions that introduce deeper exploration into a topic, making learning more immersive.

Example: In a foreign language class, students first translate basic vocabulary. Once completed, they unlock cultural Missions where they must use those words in conversations, identify landmarks, or create sentences.

Unlocking Locations to Distribute Groups: Use Unlockable Missions to send different teams or groups to specific locations at different times, preventing crowding and ensuring smooth movement throughout the school.

Example: At the start of a school-wide challenge, students complete an initial Mission that randomly unlocks a starting location, such as the gym, library, or courtyard. All teams will eventually complete the same set of Missions, but by unlocking locations in a staggered way, groups naturally spread out across the school rather than crowding one area at the same time.
